Public Policy Bulletin Board
A joint public hearing of the Dane County Public Works and Transportation Committee and Dane County Personnel and Finance Committee has been scheduled to consider a resolution that would create a Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in the Madison metropolitan planning area.
The public hearing will take place on Monday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 201 of the City-County Building.
The RTA resolution does not specificy eligible transit modes. If created, the RTA Board would be charged with developing a regional transportation plan for the Madison region. Once a proposal has been recommended by the RTA Board, a public referendum will take place before any sales tax increase is implemented.
The GMCC supported the ability to create a Dane County RTA as part of the state budget adopted earlier this year and supports the resolution to create an RTA in Dane County now. An RTA will enable regional cooperation on transportation infrastructure to improve transit options for commuters, residents and visitors, thereby increasing our economic competitiveness.
Creation of an RTA is the next logical step to advance an inclusive, public dialogue on transportation with the goal of creating a comprehensive, efficient, regional transportation system.
